Winter Is Coming

Winter is Coming!

Well, winter is well and truly here. You kind of know by a few things!

1. Cold mornings bring a snap of fresh air, yet the tradies and school kids still insist on wearing shorts.

2. State of Origin becomes all the hype for a few weeks and Sydney is awash with blue banners posters and flags; a few maroon flags creep in just to rub it in for the last 12 years.

3. Your stockpiles of reds dwindle down and you find yourself either running to the local bottl-o or look for wines online in the hope you score a great one.

So now the question is what do you go for to warm you up on these cool nights.

Often times we will go for the big heavy hitters from the Barossa, Coonawarra or McLaren. And what a great choice they are.

Of course, there is always Margaret River. The majestic landscape intersected by valleys and rolling hills, beaches and surf breaks line the nearby coast, whose waters host migratory whales (Jun–Nov). Stretching between 2 lighthouses north and south of the town, the long-distance walk, the Cape to Cape Track, fringes the limestone caves and sea cliffs of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

All of these terroirs are reflected in the taste of the reds coming out from here.

Elegance, restraint and balance. St Johns Brook Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are the two standouts. The deep ruby red colours and cherry fruits perfume the wine leaving a smooth lingering taste of deliciousness on your lips.

St Johns Brook comes from a single 37-hectare plot that experiences a great balance of rain, sun and salty air giving this wine a wonderful texture which is velvety smooth and lighter in body than its Barossa counterparts. A true joy to drink and share with friends and loved ones. And under $28 it's an absolute bargain. They are wines that you can gift and cellar easily and most of all share with great company.
